Why did the chicken cross the road?
A Weekly Conversation: Entry #4
By Contributor Gordy Bravo
In this week’s episode, we learned that the big city girl’s end game is to live on farm – yes, a farm – hidden away from all the flashing lights. Kylie wants to eventually settle down with a family and raise her kids to learn things such as how to ride horses, #goals. Even now, there is nothing more she wants than to be out in her garden, away from the paparazzi. However her father, Catelyn Jenner, pops Kylie’s bubble and asks if she’s even ready for all the responsibilities that come with the farm life.
Agreeably so, Kylie is probably not ready to trade in the selfies for saddles during this stage of her life, at least not yet. And what a refresher it was for Kylie to recognize that she doesn’t want the glamorous life forever, in the first place.
But when will it all be enough for her?
Kylie realizes that leaving her empire now would be a mistake for her brand built up by her persona, so the simple life will have to be put on the back burner. However, in the process, Kylie is going to do all that she can do now to regain her true personality. She tells her team that she is tired of being a “weirdo” and that she doesn’t want to wear the colorful wigs anymore because it’s not her anymore and that side of her was a part of who she was when trying to find herself.
Everyone changes. Everyone evolves. So why not let Kylie Jenner?
The wigs, the costumes, the Instagram posts and all, were there to support her rise to fame. it was a strategic promotional move and now that Kylie has gotten our attention it’s becoming the optimal time to meet the girl that’s hidden behind the mask for so long.
Even If it seems minimal to the outside world, Kylie has taken on a rebirth from the girl that wears wigs in everyday life for attention to the one that wants to embrace her natural long black hair. For her, it’s a step in the right direction to obtaining a new “normal.”
Kylie states that she doesn’t want to erase the alter egos for good because she realizes that is what her fans enjoy about her: the versatility she offers them. Proving her point, Kylie has embraced her black hair on social media for the past few months. A quick look at her Instagram shows the last time Kylie wore a wig in a normal setting (and not for a photoshoot) was July 8, 2017. She may just be becoming a woman of her word.
But rome wasn’t build in a day. While people can change overnight, evolutions are more so a process.
The image of Kylie Jenner may be changing and maturing, but in this episode we also see that Kylie is still young and limitless when it comes to the material things. BFF Jordyn explains that when it comes to cars and houses – Kylie is rather – materially impulsive.
Checking out a ranch house in the outskirt of Los Angeles, equipped with horse stables and acres upon acres of land for farm animals to roam, Kylie realizes that if she wanted this now then she could have it. While the ranch life may have been a no go for now, Kylie was surely in the mood to buy some new toys. More specifically, a $320,000 Rolls Royce Ghost in a bubblegum pink exterior. Yes, a fitting addition for a queen’s collection. If we are keeping count (which we totally are) then this is car number six for the young star: Mercedes-Benz Maybach, Land Rover, Ferrari 458 Convertible, Range Rover and a Mercedes-Benz SUV.
The cars themselves are also subject to change, as Kylie is not afraid to get new paint jobs on each car; one minute the car may be pink and the next minute we see the same one in an all-white coat of fresh paint (she has since done this with the Rolls Royce Ghost).
What can we say; this girl still enjoys the fancier things of life.
Just when we think Kylie may be acting young and careless again, she surprises us by letting us in on her two most personal relationships aside from her BFF zone, with Catelyn and ex-boyfriend Tyga.
Kylie explains how her relationship with her father has transformed when she brings up the fact that past memories are different and have since, evolved into something new. She acknowledges that her and her father’s relationship is becoming organic – like meeting a brand new person – where she feels more comfortable bonding now. Catelyn may have transformed into someone she knew she always was, but that will never change the fact that she will forever remain Kylie’s parent.
Tyga and Kylie’s relationship had scandal written across it from the very beginning of its formation. It may have been due to the fact that the relationship supposedly started when Kylie was 16 and Tyga was 24, but nothing was ‘officially’ public until Kylie turned 18 years old. However, the relationship had even more eyes on it when Kylie’s big brother, Robert Kardashian, started dating former stripper and Tyga’s baby momma, Blacc Chyna. Drama, drama, drama!
Tyga and Kylie became the topic of every tabloid news source out there; they became an it couple. However, it was less ‘Jay-Z and Beyonce’, causing more of a media frenzy of ‘why the hell is she with him, she can do so much better...” kind of thing.
People get so entangled into celebrity relationships that they often forget that every connection (even the ones in their own lives) take attention to thrive. Still, Kylie put any negative rumors to rest when asked and even in this episode we hear her saying, “There was absolutely, not one thing wrong with T…we will always, always have a bond.” We then get Kylie’s final words in which she decided to have the breakup because she’s young and she doesn’t want a man taking her successes for his own, nor does she want a man to take away the woman she is on her way to becoming.
This raw side to Kylie allows us to see that she is strong enough to put her foot down whenever necessary, if she deems it deserves her energy. She has made a name for herself without a man and she will continue to make strides on her own while she evolves.
The farm life may be in a distant future, but there are still so many roads to cross before this chick gets there.
Let’s all be real though, a 20 year old woman still has her needs and she bluntly states “I hope the person I’m dating is obsessed with me,” as she eyes the hundreds of roses that have been sent to her house. Kylie coyly smiles when producers ask her if she’s dating and jokingly laughs, “Wait did I say that?” Yeah girl, it’s on camera, you know what you’re doing (welcome to the family, Travis Scott).
Kylie’s words still echo true though, whatever relationship she will ever be in will undoubtedly be blasted all over the internet. It’s the price that comes with fame; no love life will ever be normal or private when you have the media’s attention at every turn. We are left with her words that seem like a distress call: “I feel like I’m in a relationship with the world.”
And there is so much truth to that very statement.
People made Kylie Jenner feel like a tangible product and she fed into the one way relationship, where people are able to access her identity constantly. If there is anything we have learned from Life of Kylie so far, is that it’s going to take much more than a few 30 minute cuts to show her larger sea change. But admittedly so, the image we once had of Kylie (the one going into covering this show) is slowly starting to break down. Though it is all very minor for now, we are hoping her evolution will become more apparent as the narrative continues to develops from the persona to the true Kylie.
So then, why exactly did this chick cross the road? Well, because somewhere in it all, she wanted something more than what was in front of her. She wanted to show the world she can evolve and behind it was the process to help her get there.
Time will tell. But as they say, evolution takes place slowly but surely.
